Trip to Southport Fire Station
Class: Year 1 Year: 2016-17
On Friday morning children walked to Southport fire station to find out information about the role of a fire fighter. We began by having a tour around the fire station. We went into the firemen’s watch room, kitchen, gymnasium, uniform room and the children’s favourite room of all, the room with the fire engines in! After our tour of the station, the firemen explained what all of the different parts of the fire engines were used for. For example, the water tank with 2000 litres of water inside, the hose pipes, the ladders and much more! To finish off a fantastic trip the firemen let the children go outside and squirt the water out of the large hose pipes. Some of us got a little bit wet!
The children thoroughly enjoyed this trip and gained fantastic first hand experience of some of the jobs that a fireman would do.
